DON’T SCREAM AND MAYBE I’LL LET YOU LIVE

Hang up the phone, he’s in your house!
Don’t look out the window . . .

What one-liner sets your nerves tingling?
Do you have a favorite?
Do you watch thrillers? Suspense? Cozies? Horror?
Tell one scary thing that can keep you from falling asleep.
Are you a worrier by nature?
Afraid spiders are falling from the ceiling once the lights go off?
How about a few suggestions that might find their
way into my next suspense novel.

Help me out here.
Scare me so bad I can’t sleep.

Okay, this is a suspense blog, stop the whining.

  1. I'm very claustophobic!! And I'm reading about being stranded in a blizzard in the middle of nowhere and no help in sight! Took hours for me to get to sleep last night!

  2. Ooh, that's a good one. I have a snow scene, but I think I could make it so much stronger. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Linda, you know it's going to be that storm at sea -- but, no, you can't have that one: it's mine.

We have a big house back in NC. Very isolated. Lots of glass, including doors. My room is upstairs, up some very wide wooden stairs. I can't hear everything that happens. I'm there alone, and a storm rages outside, with lightning flashing over the water, and branches scraping at the cedar shingles. I didn't turn on the alarm. I hear noises inside...or see car lights coming down the drive, past the other house, through the wooded acres, and know that no one should be there, not in the middle of the night.

    How's that?

  4. Hey, Linda! I LOVE all the Poirot (Agatha Christie) zingers, especially in "Curtain," where Poirot is killed by the killer--but sets up the killer's death.

How can a whole plot be a zinger/tingler?

Thanks for visiting my place today! Perhaps we can become bloggites!

  5. Ooh, Normandie, I knew you'd have a good one. And I love scary houses. Ours is over 140 years old and ooh, does it have a story to tell.
Welcome, Patti. Glad you stopped and you bet we can be. Whole plots can be, because there are books, movies, where I've literally been on the edge of my seat the whole time. That's wonderful suspense/mystery. Doesn't happen often, but oh! when it does...

  6. I think I get scared most when I am alone in a house and hear a sound--like just a minute ago and it was my stupid icemaker--but it makes me think all sorts of things!

  7. You only THINK it was your icemaker.
    Muaahahahahahaha!

  8. Hahaa! You're so funny. ;-) Well, I love suspense but serial killer stuff tends to put my imagination into overdrive. *shudder*

  9. Linda,

It would never do for me to write scary stuff because I can scare myself nearly to death over nothing, thinking of all the "what ifs."

    Write on!

    Because of Christ,

  10. I use it as therapy. When something really frightens me, or the concept of something really scares me, it's cheaper to write about it than spend $500/hour on some shrink's couch. See what I mean??? hehehe

  11. Linda,

Before I read your post, I never worried about spiders coming down from the ceiling once the lights go out. Thanks a big bunch!! :-) I'll have to sleep with a can of Raid. The things that scare me are those that don't have to use a window or doorway to get in--the nasties, I call them. They're not human, so they can't be hidden from, clobbered over the head, locked up in jail or shot. They have to be completely obliterated... but how do you do that if they're not human?
