MY BABY'S UGLY?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Yup! We get back our contest entries.
Wah. A sixty?
Boohoo! A 50!
And all from the same story . . .
We-ellllllllllllll!
Feels like we posted pix of our kids on our blogs,
and someone said, "What an ugly kid!"
We take it all personal and have our feelings hurt.
Pretty normal response, but now that the initial boohoo
is over, remember to thank those people who helped
make the contest a true success.

Helping writers get better.

Please take the time (even if you grit your teeth doing it sometimes)
to thank the judges and the coordinators of the contest.
Whether it's all warm fuzzies or not, judges spend a lot
of their own spare time critting the work.

THEY DON'T REALLY THINK YOUR BABY'S UGLY!
They just want to help you succeed.

  1. Very true, Linda. Its sometimes difficult to take criticism, but I've learned that a little time gives me perspective. I can go back to the notes and really see how helpful they are.

  2. Absolutely plan on that. Once i get up the nerve to actually READ the comments ;). I know what a stressful job it can be. And they do it for FREE!!

  3. When I got mine back this year, I had one judge give me hundreds of dollars worth of comments, edits, crits. I can't imagine the time she/he must have spent on it. I was so impressed. One of the other judges did a great deal of work as well and I find it hard to be able to thank a total stranger sufficiently for all the time they gave me whether they liked it or not. And one really DID NOT, but that's okay, because we'll never please everyone. I am, however, so grateful to the two judges who put so much time into their crits, but thanked them all, it was still their free time they offered so graciously. I'm in agreement, Raquel, going back after a bit lessens the sting, and also let's us see the contructive points that were made.

  4. Eek! I need to get my thank yous done. And I have to disagree, sometimes they really DO think our babies are ugly, but thank goodness ugliness is in the eye of the beholder. *grin* I personally think you have gorgeous babies. :-)

  5. You're so cute, Jess. Well, you're right about that, some will think they're ugly. We have to ignore them and pay more attention to those who tickle their double chins with love. We KNOW our babies are gorgeous, right?
